Another Sunday....another leisurely drive around a part of our city that deserves a bit of architectural attention. This time, we made our way to Salt Lake's oldest neighborhood (and one of our very favorites), The Avenues, so we could shoot a few homes that stand a bit more vibrantly on these alphabetic streets than most.
Already one of our city's more eclectic and expressive neighborhoods as far as properties go, you'll find all kinds here. But, as the Avenues are home to plenty of beautifully restored Victorian homes, they make up many of the more colorful properties. (For a touch of historic background, Victorians emerged around the mid 1800s as a brand of residential architecture that emphasized form, rather than simply function, enabling folks to express their personal style or flaunt social standing. They are designed to accommodate multiple colors—usually 3 or more to finish the body, trim, accents, etc.—often used to underscore the intricate woodwork and details of the home.) That said, you'll also find plenty of adorably painted bungalows and a few moderns as you wind through these streets.
What better way to spend a 70-degree spring day than by checking out a few cute Avenues properties that look seasoned to perfection?
